Mt. Rausu summit currently experiences a brisk 7.6 degrees Celsius with a wind chill factor, making it chilly for summer. There is a significant 9.2-degree Celsius temperature difference from the base. The forecast indicates partly cloudy to cloudy skies during the day, with summit temperatures expected to rise to between 11 and 12.8 degrees Celsius. With no precipitation, the ground conditions are generally dry with exposed rock ridges. Muddy sections are expected to be minimal.

The Shiretoko mountains are prone to coastal fog. While visibility is currently good at 2.5 kilometers, the cloudy forecast for the afternoon suggests potential fog intrusion from the coast, especially along the Rausu Course from Shiretoko Pass to the summit, which could lead to poor visibility. As this is bear country, carrying a bear canister and a bear bell is essential, and solo travel should be avoided.

Lightning risk is low. Gusts reaching 5.3 meters per second are expected around 3 PM, which is not severe enough to impede movement. However, hypothermia remains a risk. The effective temperature at 1621.34 meters will be in the single digits in the morning and around 10 degrees Celsius during the day. A moisture-wicking base layer, a fleece or light down mid-layer, and a waterproof-windproof shell are mandatory. Be prepared to quickly don extra insulation during breaks to prevent chilling.

Temperatures will drop to 6 degrees Celsius overnight. While day trips are standard, a headlamp and extra warm layers are crucial in case of an unexpected stop.
