Temperatures hover around 12 degrees Celsius, feeling like 10 degrees Celsius, with humidity consistently at 99 percent. The continuous precipitation will keep all surfaces thoroughly wet.
Ground conditions are entirely wet and muddy in many areas. The Old Trail water route, part of the Kiyosato Hut loop route, in particular, presents a high risk of slipping on wet rocks and moss during the ascent and descent of its continuous waterfalls. The risk of falls is significantly heightened, requiring extreme caution. Furthermore, rapid increases in water levels in the streams are a concern. On the New Trail ridge, wind gusts can reach up to 16 meters per second, posing a risk of losing balance.
Wearing appropriate waterproof and breathable rain gear, both jacket and pants, is essential. With a perceived temperature around 10 degrees Celsius, the basic layering consists of a moisture-wicking base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and waterproof rainwear as an outer layer. During breaks, additional insulation layers are necessary to prevent hypothermia. Waterproof gloves are also recommended. The risk of hypothermia is ever-present. Navigational challenges due to poor visibility and the potential for unexpected encounters with brown bears also demand vigilance. Precipitation will continue into the evening, with temperatures gradually dropping.
