As of 7:15 AM, Mt. Tsurugi summit is experiencing light drizzle with a temperature of 10.2°C, feeling like 9.2°C. Humidity is 99%, indicating that the entire rock ridge is in a wet condition. The base at 2097m shows 15.8°C, a 5.6°C difference from the summit. Ridge gusts are currently mild at 7.3m/s, but wet rocks elevate the risk of slipping and falling.
During the day, the drizzle is expected to temporarily cease around 9 AM, turning mostly sunny by noon with temperatures rising to 13.1°C. This period offers relatively clear visibility and more favorable conditions for movement. However, wet rocks dry slowly, and extreme caution is required for footing and handholds on key exposed sections like Kani-no-Tatebai and Yoko-bai. Similarly, the narrow and exposed Bessan-one Ridge presents a high risk of falling, among the highest in Japan; always be mindful of this and maintain careful three-point contact.
For layering, a quick-drying base layer, an insulating mid-layer such as fleece, and a waterproof/breathable outer shell are essential to cope with temperatures ranging from 9.2°C to 13.1°C. Rain gear must be carried. Crampons or chain spikes are not required. A helmet is mandatory for protection against falling rocks and potential head injuries from slips on wet terrain, and gloves are also effective. While risks of thunderstorms and strong winds are low, moving with wet clothing can lead to hypothermia, so meticulous temperature management through frequent layering adjustments is crucial.
Light drizzle is forecast to return after 3 PM, making the rock sections even wetter. As temperatures gradually drop towards sunset, it is recommended to maximize activity during the midday clear window and complete your ascent or descent early.
