Sharidake presents favorable conditions today, with weather improving from cloudy to mostly clear or fully sunny by midday. Visibility at the summit is excellent, exceeding 20km, offering superb panoramic views of the Sea of Okhotsk. The current summit temperature is 7.3°C, but it is expected to rise to over 12°C during the day. Despite this, a temperature difference of more than 5°C from the base, combined with wind chill, means the effective temperature on exposed ridges will feel significantly cooler.
Southerly winds will prevail, with gusts reaching up to 12m/s throughout the day. On the exposed Shindo Ridge route, these winds will be directly felt, making effective wind protection crucial. A three-layer system is recommended: a wicking base layer, a fleece or light down mid-layer, and a waterproof and windproof outer shell to manage fluctuating temperatures and wind exposure.
Ground conditions are predominantly dry given the absence of precipitation and snow. However, hikers utilizing the Kyudo Stream route should anticipate wet and potentially muddy sections along the watercourse and on various rock surfaces. While crampons or microspikes are not required, sturdy waterproof footwear is advisable. Carry rain gear not just for potential precipitation, but also as an essential windbreak. Furthermore, as a known habitat for brown bears, carrying bear bells or a whistle is a vital precaution.
The risk of thunderstorms is low. However, temperatures will begin to drop, and wind gusts may slightly intensify after sunset. It is strongly advised to plan your ascent and descent to ensure you are off the mountain well before dark. Although no significant alerts have been detected, conditions in the mountains are inherently dynamic and require constant vigilance.
