Conditions generally good — Conduct standard mountain safety measures
The Kuju Mountain Range will experience generally clear to partly cloudy conditions during the day, offering a mild climbing environment. Summit temperatures will feel between 13 to 17 degrees Celsius. A layering system consisting of a wicking base layer, a light mid-layer such as fleece or wool, and a windproof and waterproof outer shell is recommended. While on the move, the outer shell alone may suffice, but when resting at exposed areas like the summits of Mount Nakadake or Mount Kuju, or in windy spots, put on the mid-layer to maintain body warmth. There is approximately a 5-degree Celsius temperature difference between the summit and the base, so the air will feel colder as you gain elevation.
Ground conditions are mostly dry, though humidity is high. Light drizzle is expected from late afternoon into the evening. On routes like the Makinoto Pass Course, exercise caution on wet rocks and tree roots to prevent slips. The risk of getting lost in fog increases significantly at night due to the anticipated drizzle, so plan to complete your descent before visibility deteriorates. While no significant alerts were detected by the automatic risk assessment, continuous monitoring of visibility and temperature changes is advisable.
Thunderstorm risk is low. However, precipitation probability rises in the evening, with more substantial rain expected by early morning on the 4th. Temperatures will drop to around 12 degrees Celsius during this period, making rain gear essential for any continued activity. The risk of strong winds is low, with gusts around 8 m/s, which should not significantly impede movement. Hypothermia risk is low during the day but increases with evening rain. Crampons or microspikes are not necessary for current conditions.
