Mount Ontake summit currently experiences strong rain, with an air temperature of 6.7℃ and a feels-like temperature of 4.8℃. While the average wind speed is low, gusts reach 19.8m/s. Visibility is poor at 2.3km, and there is a significant 9.5℃ temperature difference from the base. Strong rain is expected to continue throughout the day, gradually weakening in the afternoon, but with a 100% chance of precipitation until 3 PM.

Due to the heavy rain, the white volcanic scree slopes above the treeline are extremely wet and slippery. Particular caution is needed when ascending towards Kengamine Peak, where loose rocks are prevalent. In these conditions, the specific recommendation to carry a helmet on this mountain becomes even more critical, as falls on wet rocks and scree can lead to head injuries.

Considering the current feels-like temperature and persistent rain, the risk of hypothermia is extremely high. Fast-drying base layers, fleece mid-layers, and waterproof-breathable rain gear (like Gore-Tex) for both top and bottom are essential. Wet clothing rapidly depletes body heat, so carrying extra insulation is vital. Gusts of 19.8m/s will make ridge travel difficult, and poor visibility increases the risk of getting lost. Today's conditions are deemed unsuitable for summit activities due to high risks of hypothermia and falls.

Rain is forecast to ease in the evening, with temperatures dropping to 2.8℃ overnight. Even after the rain stops, staying in wet gear or with a wet body poses a significant risk. Continued strict cold weather precautions are necessary.
