Current conditions at Mt. Chokai summit show heavy rain, an air temperature of 6.3℃, but a wind chill of 2.6℃ due to gusts reaching 25.3m/s. While the foothills are warm at 18℃, the significant 11.7℃ temperature drop to the summit, coupled with continuous heavy rain, demands extreme caution. Visibility is currently 2.8km, but dense fog from the Sea of Japan could develop at any moment.

Throughout the day, heavy rain will persist, with gusts fluctuating around 23m/s. Exposed long ridge routes, such as the Hoko-tate and Yu-no-dai courses, will be constantly buffeted by strong winds, posing an extremely high risk of falls and serious accidents. The lava dome area around Shin-zan is wet and slippery, with strong gusts threatening to destabilize footing. Wind chill will remain near freezing throughout the day, significantly increasing the risk of hypothermia if wet.

Under these conditions, any mountaineering activity should be cancelled. Ground conditions will be wet and muddy all day. Waterproof and breathable rain gear is essential, but its effectiveness may be limited in such strong winds. A layering system of fast-drying base layer, fleece or light down mid-layer, and a waterproof shell is crucial for thermal protection. Always carry spare warm clothing. Trekking poles may be susceptible to strong winds, requiring careful use.

Rain will continue into the night, with temperatures dropping further to around 4℃, and wind chill expected to be below freezing. Gusts will also persist, making any prolonged stay on the mountain extremely hazardous. Today, no climbing activity on Mt. Chokai is recommended.
