Currently, Mount Ontake summit experiences rain with a temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius, feeling like minus 3 degrees Celsius. There is a significant temperature difference of about 10 degrees Celsius compared to the mountain base, indicating a much harsher environment at the summit. Notably, extreme gusts reaching 26.5 meters per second have been recorded, triggering an automatic high wind risk warning. On exposed ridges leading to Kengamine and open volcanic scree slopes, these strong gusts pose a high risk of serious accidents due to loss of balance, slips, and falls. Visibility is also poor at 2.3 kilometers, requiring extreme caution for any movement.

Rain will persist through the morning, keeping the perceived temperature low. It is crucial to wear waterproof and breathable outer shells, moisture-wicking base layers, and warm mid-layers to prevent hypothermia. Gloves and a hat are also essential. The ground is wet and muddy due to the rain. Volcanic scree slopes are slippery, and caution is needed on exposed wet rocky sections. As an active volcano where helmets are recommended, maintaining awareness of the surroundings is paramount.

Rain is expected to weaken by early afternoon, with conditions improving to partly cloudy and eventually mostly clear skies. However, strong gusts around 16.6 meters per second will continue until around noon. Since winds will only subside by evening, minimize ridge travel during the day
