Conditions generally good — Conduct standard mountain safety measures
Mount Kisokoma summit is currently experiencing mist and light rain, with a temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius and a felt temperature of 2 degrees Celsius. Visibility is extremely poor, less than 1 kilometer. The temperature difference from the base is 8.2 degrees Celsius, indicating harsh conditions at the summit. Although the mist and light rain are expected to cease temporarily around 9 AM with improved visibility, it will become partly cloudy again after noon, and light mist will persist from around 3 PM through the night. Temperatures will hover around 5 degrees Celsius during the day but will gradually drop in the afternoon, falling to 1-2 degrees Celsius overnight.
There is no snow cover, but intermittent mist and high humidity have made the trails wet overall. Rocky sections are also wet and slippery. The risk of slipping is heightened, especially on steep slopes like Hacchou-zaka. The rocky ridges of Mt. Hoken are particularly hazardous today due to the wet conditions, and any ascent should be avoided. With felt temperatures hovering around 0 degrees Celsius or lower at times, there is a constant risk of hypothermia. Essential layering includes a quick-drying synthetic or merino wool base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof-breathable rain jacket and pants as an outer layer. Gloves and a hat are also mandatory.
Winds are relatively calm, but gusts could exceed 10 meters per second, contributing to heat loss from wet clothing. The improvement in visibility is temporary, with conditions expected to deteriorate again in the afternoon. Therefore, limit activities to the early morning hours and plan for an early descent. Although no significant alerts were detected by the automated risk assessment, continuously monitor visibility and temperature changes, and plan your actions accordingly. Crampons or microspikes are not necessary, but extreme caution is advised on wet rocky terrain.
