Hakuba-dake summit is currently experiencing rain, a temperature of 4.2℃, and dense fog with visibility less than 1km. Rain is expected to persist throughout the day, with temperatures ranging from 5℃ to 6℃. Gusts reached 16.7m/s currently and are forecast to hit up to 18m/s during the day, making travel on exposed ridges extremely hazardous. The significant temperature difference between the summit and base further exacerbates the perceived cold.

Under these conditions, the Hakuba Daisekkei (Great Snow Valley) is highly unstable due to rain and rising temperatures. The risk of rockfall is very high, and extreme caution is required for post-holing through the softening snow. With a snow depth of 85cm, the ground is wet and muddy from the rain and residual snow. Ridges are a mix of snow and rock, made slippery by the rain. Light crampons are essential for snow sections, but traversing the Daisekkei is strongly advised against today.

With temperatures around 5℃ and wind speeds of 15m/s, the wind chill factor will drop temperatures below freezing. Full waterproof and breathable rain gear is mandatory. Layer a warm fleece or synthetic insulated jacket over a wicking base layer, and protect extremities with waterproof gloves and a hat. The risk of hypothermia is extremely high, as wet clothing will rapidly draw heat from the body.

Climbing Hakuba-dake is strongly discouraged today. Undertaking any activity on the Daisekkei or alpine ridges poses a severe risk to life. Rain is expected to continue into the evening, with a slight drop in temperature.
