Mount Ontake will see calm, clear weather through the morning. The current summit temperature is 0°C with a wind chill of -2.9°C due to light winds of 0.3m/s. In contrast, the base of the mountain is clear at 9.7°C, highlighting a significant temperature difference. Summit temperatures are expected to gradually rise, reaching 4.1°C by noon. The exposed white volcanic scree slopes above the treeline towards Kengamine will be relatively dry and walkable in the morning.

However, light drizzle is forecast to begin around 3 PM, making the volcanic scree wet and slippery. Extreme caution is required for foot placement. For layering, a wicking base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof-breathable shell are essential. Wind chills can drop to around -5°C during gusts, even in the daytime, so gloves and a warm hat are also necessary. As an active volcano, carrying a helmet is strongly recommended for safety on Mount Ontake.

The drizzle will continue into the evening and night, with temperatures dropping from 0°C to -3.2°C. This combination of moisture and falling temperatures increases the risk of hypothermia. It is advisable to plan for an early descent, completing your hike before 3 PM. Current visibility is 1.3km, but it may deteriorate with the onset of drizzle, so proceed with caution.
