Ground conditions are wet and likely icy in shaded areas or on exposed rock faces due to the sub-zero temperatures.

Expect the freezing rain to continue through late morning, intensifying by 12:00 with temperatures around -1.9°C. By 15:00, precipitation will transition to snow, with temperatures dropping further to -6.1°C and winds picking up significantly. Gusts reaching 16.9 m/s are forecast by mid-afternoon, making conditions on exposed sections like the Shin-do ridge extremely challenging. The Old Trail (Kyudo) with its series of waterfalls poses a particular hazard; these sections are highly susceptible to ice formation, increasing the risk of slips and falls.

Layering is critical for survival. A waterproof and windproof hard shell as an outer layer is essential. Mid-layers should include fleece or down for insulation, over a wicking base layer. Carry extra insulating layers. The calculated wind chill will plunge to approximately -9°C by 15:00, and potentially much lower later in the evening with gusts up to 24 m/s and temperatures down to -7.4°C. Given the persistent poor visibility, sub-zero temperatures, and the transition to heavy snow and strong winds, ascending Shari-dake today is strongly discouraged. The loop route from Kiyotake-so will be treacherous. Prioritize safety and consider postponing your ascent until conditions improve.
