Temperatures are around 7.2°C at the summit and 14.2°C at the base, indicating a significant thermal gradient. Ground conditions are generally dry, but wooden boardwalks across the vast marshlands may be slick from morning dew or dampness.

For ascents via routes like Harai-gawa or Koakazawa, the effective temperature at the summit is currently 3.7°C, dropping to around 2°C overnight. Essential layering includes a wicking base layer, a fleece or light down mid-layer, and a windproof/waterproof outer shell. Additional insulation is crucial for breaks and any activities extending into the night.
