Mount Hakkoda is covered in dense fog this morning, with visibility less than 1 kilometer. The summit temperature is 14.9 degrees Celsius, while the base is 19.8 degrees Celsius, showing a nearly 5-degree difference. Throughout the day, light drizzle will turn into rain, with temperatures remaining between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius. Westerly winds are expected, with gusts reaching 17.7 meters per second by 9 AM.

Under these conditions, getting wet significantly lowers the perceived temperature, increasing the risk of hypothermia. Waterproof and breathable rainwear (jacket and pants), insulating layers like fleece, and a quick-drying base layer are essential. Do not forget gloves and a hat. The ground will be wet all day, and muddy conditions are expected, especially in the wetlands. Crampons or microspikes are not necessary, but waterproof hiking boots are crucial.

The risk of getting lost in the dense fog, especially in the wetlands unique to Mount Hakkoda, is extremely high. The ridge from Mount Tamoyachi-dake (Ropeway Station) to Mount Odake is particularly dangerous due to strong winds and poor visibility. There is also a possibility of encountering toxic volcanic gases around Jigokunuma if one deviates from the route due to poor visibility. Active mountaineering is not recommended today. If you choose to proceed, you must navigate strictly with GPS, map, and compass, maintaining a precise awareness of your current location, and ideally be accompanied by experienced individuals.
