Conditions generally good — Conduct standard mountain safety measures
Mount Asahidake summit area remains cloudy with extremely light winds today. Temperatures will rise to 15.8℃ by 9 AM and 16.1℃ by noon, but with 93% humidity, it will feel cool without direct sunlight. Light drizzle is forecast from around 3 PM, which can rapidly lower the perceived temperature if one gets wet. Although the temperature difference from the base is only about 2.5℃, the summit can feel much colder even without strong winds.
Ground conditions are generally wet. If light drizzle occurs, rocks and wooden paths will become slippery, requiring careful footing. Special attention is needed around the fumarole area (Jigoku-dani) of this active volcano; with light winds, volcanic gases can accumulate. Always monitor wind direction and gas flow, and if any unusual odors are detected, leave the area immediately. When traversing through the alpine plant communities, proceed cautiously to avoid slipping in muddy sections.
For today's ascent, carry quick-drying long-sleeve base layers, a light fleece or down vest as a mid-layer, and waterproof breathable rainwear (jacket and pants) as an outer layer. Gloves and a hat are also essential for warmth. While the risk of strong winds or thunderstorms is low, getting wet from the light drizzle during the day increases the risk of hypothermia. Wear extra layers during breaks and change wet clothing promptly. Crampons or microspikes are not necessary.
Conditions will remain mostly cloudy into the evening, with temperatures dropping to around 13℃. Light drizzle is again forecast for the night, so day hikers should complete their activities early. Those planning to camp or bivouac must be fully prepared for cold temperatures and wet conditions during the night.
