The temperature difference from the base is approximately 6℃, and visibility extends beyond 11km, offering good views from outside the volcanic crater restricted area around Okama. However, light drizzle is expected to begin around noon, intensifying to widespread mist and light rain by 3 PM with a 98% chance of precipitation. Trail conditions will transition from dry in the morning to wet and muddy in the afternoon.
Particular caution is advised for ridgeline traverses from Katta-dake to Kumano-dake, as visibility may be reduced due to the mist and rain. Be mindful of mixed traffic with less-equipped tourists, especially around popular areas.
While the felt temperature will be comfortable at around 17℃ in the morning, it will feel cooler, potentially below 15℃, in the afternoon due to the dampness from the mist and rain, even with temperatures around 18℃. Essential layering includes a quick-drying base layer, a thin fleece or synthetic mid-layer, and a waterproof-breathable rain jacket and pants. Gusts up to 11.4m/s are not considered strong winds, but the combination of mist and wind increases the risk of hypothermia.
The mist and light rain will continue until around 6 PM, clearing to fair skies by 9 PM. Nighttime temperatures will drop to the mid-14℃ range, so continued warmth precautions are necessary even after your activity concludes.
