As of 7:30 AM, Mt. Tsurugidake summit is experiencing light drizzle with visibility less than 1 kilometer. The temperature is 6.6 degrees Celsius, with a wind chill of 5.1 degrees, and these conditions are expected to persist throughout the day. The base area also reports light drizzle, with a temperature difference of approximately 5.6 degrees compared to the summit. During your ascent, wear waterproof and breathable outer shells and diligently regulate your body temperature with mid-layers. Getting wet will further lower the perceived temperature, increasing the risk of hypothermia.
The ground will remain wet all day due to the drizzle. Particularly on steep rocky sections such as Kani-no-Tatebai, Kani-no-Yokobai, and the chains along Betsuzan Ridge, the wet rock surfaces will be extremely slippery. Proceed with caution, ensuring your footwear provides excellent grip. Given that Mt. Tsurugidake has one of the highest risks of rockfall and falls in Japan, a helmet is absolutely essential. Poor visibility will also make route finding challenging.
Drizzle is expected to continue intermittently into the afternoon, with precipitation probabilities increasing to 63% by noon and 92% by 3 PM. Winds will remain light throughout the day, and the risk of lightning is low. However, navigating wet rock faces will take longer than usual. Congestion on rocky sections could lead to extended waits in wet conditions, further elevating the risk of hypothermia. Avoid pushing yourself too hard, and be prepared to turn back if necessary.
There is no snow cover at present, but wet rock faces always carry a risk of slipping and falling. Crampons or chain spikes are not required, but rain gear and waterproof gloves are essential. Constantly monitor for worsening visibility and slippery ground conditions, exercising careful judgment throughout your climb.
