Naeba-san summit currently experiences dense fog with a visibility of less than 1km, a temperature of 9.2°C, and 99% humidity. The feels-like temperature is 8.3°C. There is a significant 6.7°C difference from the base, making the summit area distinctly chilly. Throughout the day, temperatures will only reach about 13.1°C, and high humidity will keep the effective temperature feeling lower.
The extensive high-moor wetland on the summit plateau presents a high risk of getting lost due to this dense fog. Stepping off the designated wooden paths, especially around the numerous pond areas (Iketo), is strictly prohibited. Essential navigation requires constant use of GPS in conjunction with a map to verify your current position frequently. For layering, wear a base layer, a mid-layer such as fleece, and a waterproof-breathable outer shell at all times to prevent hypothermia from sweat cooling.
Ground conditions will be generally wet, with many muddy sections expected. Waterproof hiking boots and a full rain suit (jacket and pants) are essential gear. Although the probability of precipitation increases in the afternoon, the forecast remains 0mm, indicating a low risk of thunderstorms. However, visibility is unlikely to improve and dense fog is expected to persist into the evening.
