Conditions generally good — Conduct standard mountain safety measures
Current conditions on Mt. Tsurugi summit report a light drizzle with a temperature of 2.9℃, feeling like -0.5℃. Visibility is extremely poor, less than 1km. The temperature difference from the base is 5.6℃, indicating significantly colder conditions at the summit. Light drizzle is expected to persist throughout the day, with temperatures hovering around 3℃, but the wind chill will maintain sub-zero felt temperatures.
Due to continuous precipitation and low temperatures, the rock ridges are entirely wet. Key climbing sections such as Kani-no-Tatebai and Yokobai, and the chains on Bessan-one and Hayatsuki-one, are extremely slippery when wet. Poor visibility further complicates route finding, significantly increasing the risk of rockfall and falls, which are notoriously high on Mt. Tsurugi. Helmets are essential, but even greater caution is required.
For layering today, given the sub-zero felt temperature, a quick-drying base layer, a fleece or similar mid-layer, and waterproof-breathable rainwear (jacket and pants) are crucial. Waterproof gloves and additional warm clothing are also mandatory. Due to the high risk of slipping on wet rocks, choose hiking boots with excellent grip. Crampons or microspikes are not needed, but any remaining snow patches may be soft from the rain.
The risk of thunderstorms is low, but gusts up to 13.5m/s are forecast. Such gusts on wet rock ridges can cause loss of balance and lead to falls. The risk of hypothermia is very high; high humidity and drizzle will rapidly deplete body heat. Take short breaks and take thorough measures to avoid getting cold. Summit attempts in these conditions are extremely dangerous, and even experienced climbers should refrain from unnecessary risks.
