Current conditions on Mount Rausu summit show a temperature of 7.3°C, feeling like 5.4°C. A significant 11°C difference exists between the summit and base, indicating a chilly environment at higher elevations. Visibility is less than 1km, shrouded in dense fog, a condition expected to persist throughout the day. Navigating the Rausu Course or Iwaobetsu Course will be challenging due to poor visibility. Those planning a traverse of the Shiretoko Mountain Range should reconsider, as the risk of getting lost on the ridge is elevated.

Temperatures will rise to 11.9°C by midday, but light drizzle is forecast from around 3 PM. Although precipitation is minimal, high humidity means getting wet can lower the perceived temperature, increasing the risk of hypothermia. Essential layering includes a wicking base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof-breathable shell as an outer layer. The ground is clear of snow, exposing rocky terrain, and will remain wet due from the drizzle. Exercise extreme caution on slippery rocks and boardwalks.

Winds will remain calm throughout the day, with gusts up to only 7.4 m/s, posing no significant wind-related hazards. However, as this is prime bear habitat, ensure you use bear lockers, carry bear bells, and ideally hike in groups. Light drizzle is expected to continue intermittently into the evening and night, so avoid descending after dark.
