Mount Ontake summit is currently partly cloudy with a temperature of 5.4°C and a feels-like temperature of 2.7°C, with gentle winds. The partly cloudy conditions will persist through the day, with temperatures rising to around 7.2°C by noon. However, gusts are expected to pick up to 10.5 m/s by 3 PM. The white volcanic scree slopes above the treeline are expected to be dry or slightly damp due to no precipitation, so crampons or microspikes are not necessary. Nevertheless, exercise caution on potentially slippery sections.

There is a significant temperature difference of over 10°C between the base and the summit. For layering, adjust with a base and mid-layer during activity, and ensure you have a windproof outer layer plus an additional insulating layer for breaks. In temperatures ranging from 2 to 7°C (feels-like), sweat can quickly lead to hypothermia. As an active volcano, carrying a helmet is always recommended when climbing Mount Ontake.

While the risk of thunderstorms is low, be mindful of the afternoon gusts. Exposed areas near the summit and along the ridge towards Kengamine will be particularly affected by the wind. Temperatures will drop further in the evening, reaching as low as 1.1°C overnight. Any activity after sunset requires serious cold weather preparation.
