山頂は猛吹雪と突風 厳冬期並みの様相

The summit of Mt. Fuji is currently experiencing heavy snow and extreme wind gusts. The temperature is -3.3°C, with a wind chill of -8.4°C, presenting severe conditions. Heavy snowfall is expected to continue through the morning, with forecasts indicating 27.16cm of new snow within the next 3 hours at 9 AM. These are unusual, mid-winter-like conditions for this time of year. While the base experiences heavy rain, the temperature difference to the summit is a stark -14.7°C.

Peak wind gusts are currently 25.3 m/s, with forecasts predicting up to 26.9 m/s by noon. As an isolated peak, Mt. Fuji's exposed slopes above the tree line are extremely dangerous, with a high risk of being blown away. Major routes like Yoshida Trail and Fujinomiya Trail, which feature steep volcanic scree from the 5th station, will be unstable due to new snow and strong winds. Visibility is poor at 1.1km, nearing whiteout conditions.

Under these conditions, there is a very high risk of hypothermia, high altitude sickness, and serious accidents from slips and falls. Automated risk assessment has issued warnings for extreme gusts and increased snowfall with avalanche risk. All climbing activities should be canceled. If travel is unavoidable, essential gear includes moisture-wicking base layers, fleece or light down mid-layers, waterproof and breathable shell jacket and pants, thick gloves, a balaclava, waterproof mountaineering boots, as well as crampons and an ice axe.

Conditions are expected to improve to clear skies after 6 PM, but temperatures will remain below freezing. There is a possibility that the new snow accumulated during the day will freeze, creating icy conditions.
