This morning at Tomuraushi summit, the weather is clear with a temperature of -0.5°C and a felt temperature of -3.6°C. The temperature difference from the base is 8.6°C. Temperatures are expected to rise to 3.8°C during the day, making for a mild day for climbing. Visibility is excellent, exceeding 17km, offering expansive views of the Daisetsuzan mountain range.

Snow depth is 169cm. While the snow will soften with the rising daytime temperatures, firm snow surfaces and isolated patches of ice will remain on north-facing slopes, shaded areas, and during early mornings and evenings. Especially on snowfields leading to Kitamuma and Minaminuma, and around the giant rock formations of the Rock Garden, frozen sections are anticipated. Therefore, 12-point crampons and an ice axe are essential gear. Microspikes are insufficient.

Felt temperatures will remain below freezing at times even during the day, and body heat can be rapidly lost during breaks. Carry a base layer, mid-layer, waterproof breathable outer layer, and an additional warm insulating layer. Winds are calm, but in the deep Daisetsuzan range, rapid weather changes are always a possibility. Do not forget the lessons from the 2009 accident. While no dense fog is forecast, the risk of getting lost in residual snow conditions persists. Tomuraushi is a long course, difficult to complete in a single day. A well-planned itinerary, sufficient physical strength, and experience are required.
