Kitadake summit is experiencing clear skies and excellent visibility this morning. However, the temperature at 7:00 AM was -1.7°C, with a wind chill of -5.6°C. Daytime temperatures will hover around 1-2°C, but wind effect will keep the perceived temperature below freezing. A significant temperature difference of over 10 degrees exists between the summit and Hirogawara at the base, necessitating appropriate gear for the altitude.

Ground conditions are a mix of remnant snow, approximately 2cm deep, and exposed rock. Particular caution is advised around the rocky sections near Hachihonba-no-Koru, where shaded areas or early morning/late afternoon periods may present icy patches. Light crampons or chain spikes are essential for navigating slippery snow sections, with discretion needed for their use on exposed rock.

Layering should include a wicking base layer, a mid-layer such as fleece or a light down jacket, and a windproof/waterproof outer shell. An additional warm insulating layer, like a thicker down jacket, is crucial for breaks or exposed ridges. Gloves and a warm hat are also mandatory.

While winds are moderate, the consistently low perceived temperatures pose a risk of hypothermia. Proactive thermal management is vital, especially during stops or in exposed areas. No thunderstorms are forecast, but watch for potential changes in visibility as light clouds are expected in the afternoon.
