Mount Meakan summit currently experiences light rain with a temperature of 0.1 degrees Celsius, feeling like minus 3.1 degrees Celsius. There is a significant temperature difference from the base, indicating colder conditions near the summit. Light rain or drizzle will continue through the morning, with temperatures hovering around zero degrees. Although winds are light, 100 percent humidity will make the perceived temperature feel even colder if clothing gets wet. The scree slopes and exposed rocky areas on popular routes like the Onneto Course will be wet and slippery due due to rain, requiring careful footing.

In the afternoon, snow is expected from around 3 PM, with temperatures dropping sharply to minus 3.9 degrees Celsius. The wind direction will shift to northerly, with speeds reaching over 6 m/s and gusts exceeding 16 m/s. By 6 PM, gusts could approach 20 m/s. As an active volcano, Mount Meakan's strong winds can widely disperse sulfur gas from the fumarole fields, increasing the risk of acute sulfur gas poisoning. Approaching the downwind side of the fumarole zone during strong northerly winds in the afternoon is extremely dangerous. The combination of poor visibility and gas inhalation risk necessitates an early start and early retreat.

The risk of hypothermia is very high today. Waterproof and breathable shell layers are essential. Wear wicking base layers and carry thick fleece or down insulation as mid-layers. Spare gloves and a hat are also crucial. Strong winds and falling temperatures when wet can be life-threatening. Prioritize morning activities and plan to descend to safer, more sheltered areas by 2 PM at the latest. Prolonged stays near the summit should be avoided.
