As of 7 AM, Rausu-dake summit is cloudy with a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, feeling like 1.3 degrees Celsius. While snow depth is only 2 cm at the observation point, extensive snowfields remain across the mountain. These snowfields will soften significantly as temperatures are forecast to rise above 10 degrees Celsius by midday under clearing skies. Visibility is excellent, exceeding 20 km.

On routes such as the Rausu trail and Iwaobetsu trail, the melting snowfields pose an increased risk of post-holing and slipping. Lightweight crampons or microspikes are essential. While the daytime feels like temperature will rise to around 6 degrees Celsius in the morning and 8 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, exposed ridges will feel colder due to wind. A base layer, mid-layer, and outer shell are mandatory.

The automatic risk assessment indicates a significant temperature drop of 7 degrees Celsius during the forecast period. Temperatures will fall to near 0 degrees Celsius at night. Do not be complacent about the daytime warmth; carry an extra insulating layer, such as a down jacket, for evening and early morning conditions. Rausu-dake is a brown bear habitat, so a food locker and bear bell are indispensable. While the risk of lightning and strong winds is low, be vigilant for hypothermia due to the sharp drop in temperature after sunset if your activity extends into the evening.
