Mount Tomuraushi summit is currently partly cloudy with a temperature of 7.3 degrees Celsius, feeling like 6.1 degrees Celsius, with minimal wind. The temperature difference from the base is a significant 8.9 degrees, indicating early autumn conditions at the summit. While the morning remains partly cloudy, light mist is expected to begin around noon, intensifying to a strong drizzle by 3 PM. Although the precipitation is not heavy, up to 1.1 millimeters, high humidity will keep conditions wet.

The afternoon mist will make the Rock Garden, a prominent feature with its massive rock formations, and the surrounding high-alpine pine zones wet and slippery. Muddy conditions are also anticipated around the Kitamuma and Minaminuma alpine wetlands. With temperatures in the single digits, exposure to wet conditions significantly increases the risk of hypothermia, mirroring conditions found on 3000-meter peaks in Honshu. Carrying full waterproof and breathable outer layers, a base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and extra insulation is essential.

Wind speeds will not be strong, with gusts up to 6.1 meters per second, but the combination of mist and low visibility, currently 1.1 kilometers, elevates the risk of getting lost. This area is known for its long, challenging routes, and getting disoriented in dense fog was a key factor in the 2009 accident. Regularly check your GPS and map, and proceed with extreme caution. Pay close attention to body temperature management throughout your trek, planning for an early start and a generous descent schedule.
