Today on the Zao mountain range, conditions will be relatively mild. The summit currently reports mostly clear skies with a temperature of 14.8 degrees Celsius, feeling like 14.3 degrees Celsius. Winds are gentle at 3.08 meters per second, with gusts up to 10.9 meters per second. Temperatures are expected to rise to 18.9 degrees Celsius by noon.

Ground conditions are primarily dry with exposed rock due to no recent precipitation, though high humidity might create localized wet spots. Crampons or microspikes are not necessary. However, current visibility is limited to 1.6 kilometers. Hikers traversing the ridge from Mt. Karita to Mt. Kumano should be highly vigilant for potential disorientation in reduced visibility. Strict adherence to the entry restrictions around the Okama crater lake is also essential.

For layering, a quick-drying base layer, a thin fleece or long-sleeved shirt as a mid-layer, and a windproof and waterproof shell as an outer layer are recommended. Carry a lightweight down vest or an additional fleece to wear during breaks or in case of unexpected temperature drops.

The risks of thunderstorms, strong winds, and hypothermia are low today. However, light drizzle is forecast for the evening around 6 PM, so carrying rain gear is advisable. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 13 degrees Celsius, so ensure adequate cold weather protection if your activities extend into the night.
