Mount Rausu summit is currently clear with excellent visibility exceeding 20km, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Shiretoko coastline. Daytime temperatures will range from 14°C to 17.7°C, with gentle winds gusting up to 7.3m/s. The rock sections on the Iwaobetsu trail are dry, making for comfortable climbing conditions. While active, a base layer and a light mid-layer will suffice. However, during breaks or at higher elevations, the felt temperature can drop to around 12.9°C, so a windproof, waterproof-breathable shell as an outer layer is essential for protection against wind and potential chill.

There is a significant temperature difference between the summit and the base. The base (219.77m) is 22.5°C, while the summit (1621.34m) is 14°C, a notable drop of 8.5°C. It is crucial to prepare your gear considering this elevation-induced temperature change. The ground is dry, so crampons or microspikes are not necessary. Rain gear, including a waterproof-breathable shell and pants, is mandatory for unexpected light rain and effective body temperature regulation. While the risk of thunderstorms is low today, Mount Rausu is a known brown bear habitat; carrying a bear bell, bear spray, and a food locker is absolutely essential for your safety.

Clouds are expected to increase after 6 PM, with light drizzle forecast from around 9 PM. By 3 AM, it will be cloudy, and temperatures will drop further to the low 12°C range. We strongly recommend making the most of the excellent daytime conditions and planning your descent to be completed well before sunset to avoid any late-night hazards.
