Conditions generally good — Conduct standard mountain safety measures
As of 7 AM, the summit is cloudy with a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, feeling like 11.6 degrees Celsius. Humidity is very high at 97%, and visibility is 1.7 kilometers. Intermittent light drizzle is forecast for the daytime, with temperatures expected to rise from 13.8 to 16.7 degrees Celsius. However, the summit temperature will remain nearly 10 degrees lower than the base's 21.6 degrees Celsius. Winds are light, with gusts peaking around 6.5 m/s, indicating a low risk of strong winds.
Ground conditions will remain wet due to the drizzle and high humidity, with many muddy sections. The Nukabiragawa course on Horoshiri-dake features over 20 river crossings. Wet rocks and stones will be extremely slippery, demanding utmost caution during crossings. While the risk of sudden river swelling is low, pay close attention to your footing. Although 1.7 km visibility is generally adequate, be prepared for potential further reduction in cirque areas due to drizzle, and maintain diligent route-finding.
Layering should include a wicking base layer, a thin fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof-breathable rain jacket as the outer layer. As you are likely to get wet during activity, carry a lightweight synthetic insulated jacket for warmth during breaks, as perceived temperatures can drop quickly. Crampons or microspikes are not necessary, but waterproof hiking boots are essential. Bring extra socks, a towel, and a dry bag for river crossings. Given the high density of brown bears, extra vigilance and making your presence known are crucial, especially in reduced visibility.
The risk of lightning and strong winds is low. However, the high humidity and drizzle make hypothermia a concern due to wetness;
