Conditions generally good — Conduct standard mountain safety measures
Weak drizzle is expected to continue throughout the day, with a brief period of light showers around noon. Summit temperatures will hover around 10°C. Although winds are light, the combination of precipitation and high humidity will make the sensible temperature feel closer to 9°C, creating chilly conditions. Getting wet during activity can easily lead to a drop in body temperature.
Ground conditions are generally wet due to continuous precipitation. Expect muddy sections, especially on the gentle, beginner-friendly slopes characteristic of Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort. Exercise extreme caution due to slippery footing. As there is no snow cover, crampons or microspikes are not necessary.
Essential gear includes waterproof hiking boots. Always carry a full set of waterproof rain gear, including both jacket and pants. For layering, wear a quick-drying base layer, an insulating mid-layer such as fleece, and your rain gear as an outer layer to prevent getting wet and to maintain body warmth.
Summit visibility is currently 2km. With persistent light drizzle, significant improvement in visibility is unlikely throughout the day. This highlights the inherent risk of reduced visibility due to fog, a common characteristic of Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort. The risk of getting lost increases, especially for those unfamiliar with the area. Regularly check your current location using a map or GPS and proceed with caution. While risks of strong winds or lightning are low, be wary of hypothermia due to getting wet from the rain.
Temperatures will drop from 8.9°C in the evening to around 6°C by 21:00. Precipitation will continue into the evening, but skies are forecast to become partly cloudy after 21:00, clearing to mostly sunny by 03:00 tomorrow morning. Nighttime activities carry a higher risk of hypothermia due to falling temperatures and getting wet. Therefore, descending before sunset is strongly recommended.
