Rausu Peak currently experiences near clear skies at the summit, yet visibility remains below 1km due to dense fog. The perceived temperature is 6.3 degrees Celsius, a significant 10-degree difference from the base, making the summit quite chilly. While temperatures are forecast to rise to around 10 degrees Celsius during the day, poor visibility is likely to persist into the afternoon.

Ground conditions are generally dry with no snow cover. However, the dense fog and 79% humidity mean rocks and soil will be damp. Exercise extreme caution on rocky sections, particularly along the Rausu Course and Iwaobetsu Course, where surfaces may be slippery. Cloudy conditions are expected in the afternoon, with light drizzle forecast for the night. Gusts up to 6.7 meters per second are possible on the ridges, further lowering the perceived temperature.

To mitigate the risk of hypothermia, wear a fast-drying synthetic or merino wool base layer, a thin fleece mid-layer, and carry a waterproof and breathable shell jacket as an outer layer. Although it is a summer-only climbing season, those planning a traverse of the Shiretoko mountain range must be particularly vigilant against dense fog and sudden weather changes caused by sea winds. As this is a bear habitat, proper bear countermeasures, including the use of a food locker, are essential.
