Currently, Zao Mountain Range summit area is experiencing light rain with a temperature of 5.7°C, feeling like 2.5°C. Visibility is limited to 1.3km, enveloped in fog. Gusts have reached 10.6m/s, indicating strong winds along the ridges. There is a 7°C temperature difference between the summit and the base, with perceived temperature dropping significantly at higher elevations. Rain is expected to continue throughout the day, with temperatures falling to around 2°C in the afternoon, making the effective temperature feel below freezing.

Mountain activities today are extremely challenging. The ridge line from Katta-dake to Kumano-dake presents a high risk of getting lost and hypothermia due to poor visibility and strong gusts. Viewing the crater lake Okama is also difficult given the limited visibility. The ground is wet to muddy due to continuous rain. Especially exposed soil areas are slippery. Hiking under these conditions is not recommended.

Essential gear includes waterproof and breathable rainwear (jacket and pants). Layering multiple mid-layers such as fleece or light down jackets is crucial for warmth. Waterproof gloves, a waterproof hat or balaclava, and waterproof hiking boots are also indispensable. No snow accumulation means crampons or microspikes are not required. With gusts exceeding 10m/s, the risk of hypothermia is significantly elevated, making a decision to turn back vital.

Temperatures are forecasted to drop further overnight, reaching 0.9°C by early morning. Light drizzle will persist, increasing the danger of nocturnal activities. Even for tourists accessing via ropeway, ample warmth and waterproofing measures are essential under these weather conditions.
