Today on Meakan-dake, expect light cloud to cloudy skies. Summit temperatures will rise to around 10°C during the day, but winds are forecast to strengthen. With no snow accumulation or precipitation, trails are generally dry. However, the volcanic scree, a characteristic of active volcanoes, contains many loose stones, increasing the risk of slips and falls. This risk is exacerbated by strong winds, which can easily destabilize hikers, necessitating careful foot placement. Wet sections may also be present in forested areas like the Onneto Course due to morning dew or lingering moisture.

Winds will shift from south-southwest to west-southwest and strengthen through the afternoon, with gusts up to 18.5m/s forecast by 15:00. This wind direction increases the risk of sulfur gas from the fumarole groups around the crater lakes drifting onto hiking trails. Hikers approaching via the Meakan Onsen Course, which is often upwind, must pay close attention to wind shifts. A quick decision to turn back is crucial if any strong sulfur odor is detected.

The perceived temperature at the summit will remain around 2°C in the morning and 5-6°C in the afternoon due to the wind chill. A moisture-wicking base layer, a fleece or light down mid-layer, and a windproof and waterproof outer shell are essential. Carry rain gear. Crampons and microspikes are not required. Key risks for the day are hypothermia from wind chill and acute sulfur gas poisoning. Thunderstorm risk is low. Overnight, clear skies will bring temperatures down to around 2°C, so avoid activity after sunset.
