Hakusan summit area continues to experience clear skies. Current temperature is 2.5 degrees Celsius, with a wind chill of -1.6 degrees Celsius. Although there is no snow accumulation, Hakusan is in its lingering snow season in early May. Shaded areas and sections crossing ravines, particularly snowfields along the Sabo Shindo trail, are likely to be hard and frozen. These conditions will become icy, especially during mornings and evenings. Therefore, carrying full crampons (6-point or more, not just microspikes) and an ice axe is essential.

Overnight into early morning, the summit temperature is forecast to drop to -3.9 degrees Celsius, with gusts reaching 18.8 meters per second. Under these conditions, the wind chill on exposed ridges will fall below -10 degrees Celsius, creating extremely cold conditions. For layering, wear a moisture-wicking base layer, a fleece or light down mid-layer, and a windproof and waterproof outer shell. For stops, an additional thick down jacket is crucial for insulation. Gloves and a warm hat are also necessary.

The ridges of the three peaks, including Gozenmine and O-nanji-mine, pose extremely high risks of losing balance due to strong winds and developing hypothermia. Ridge travel from night to early morning should be strictly avoided. The temperature difference between the summit and the base is a significant 11 degrees Celsius; ascending with the perception of clear weather at the base can be life-threatening. Thorough cold weather preparation and cautious movement through lingering snow patches are strongly advised.
